What's Your Mountain Bike Story

• For starters, when did you first start mountain biking and where were your trails of choice for fun in the great outdoors?
I started mountain biking in the spring of 2014. I had moved to the area from Philadelphia after finishing school and had never really done cycling of any type. My boyfriend and friends down here were all very into the mountain bike scene, so they were the ones that really got me into it. Initially I started riding on the trails at CAMBO, a private farm in Rixeyville. Now I like to get out and ride wherever I can!

  • How long after starting to ride mountain bikes did you think about mountain bike racing? Was it your idea or did all your buddies start racing?
I had been riding for about six months before I even considered racing. A lot of my riding friends were already part of the VORS scene. I just find the whole mountain bike race scene to be so rad. I love meeting new people at races, and everyone is always so supportive and encouraging. It's such a great community! The first summer I went to all of the races to cheer on friends or act as pit crew. My first race was Paranormal 2014. I crashed pretty hard and only did a couple of laps, but the Teventrails and the atmosphere of that race is such a blast. After that I did Warrior Creek the following spring. I didn't really start racing VORS I think until 2016.

• Are there other sports that you take part in? We know some of you are ultra-trail runners and such. So…. What else do you do?
No other sports really. Prior to mountain biking I was very into yoga, especially power yoga. Throughout middle and high school I was very into ballet. I even considered going to school for dance but ended up going to regular academic university.

• Where is your favorite place to ride/train?
Locally I still love the CAMBO trails. For a private farm, it has some sweet singletrack with some fun tech and obstacles. For bigger, longer rides Stokesville and Elizabeth Furnace. Also Davis WV, which is a little further away but also a lot of fun.

• What’s your favorite mountain bike race or adventure story?
No specific adventure, but my boyfriend Matt and I have been trying to ride in different areas around the country every spring and/or summer. So far we have been able to ride in Brevard NC, Boulder CO, Park City UT, Santa Rosa CA, Boise ID, Lake Tahoe CA, Mendocino CA, Bend and Oakridge OR. This year we are planning on heading out and meeting friends from Santa Rosa in Downieville CA. We love seeing all the different types of terrain in different areas of the country and checking out new trails.

• Do you have any other race accolades, podiums or standouts?
I don't really consider myself to be fast, so no other major podiums. I'm happiest just going out and doing big rides with friends! I also hope to start doing more endurance events like 100k and 100 mile races.

• Are there any bike shops or other businesses you would like to give a shout out to?
Bike Stop Warrenton for getting me hooked up with my sweet Santa Cruz bikes!

• Do you have any big plans for 2019
Planning on doing Mohican 100k this summer. Also looking forward to the trip to Downieville!
